Yoga and the Doshas

  • The Studio 10 Hohenzollernstraße München, BY, 80801 Germany (map)

Have you ever wondered why some yoga poses seem to leave you calm, centered, and relaxed, while others make you irritated, sore, and out of balance? Or why your friends love rigorous flows in a hot room while you do best on a regimen of slow, gentle, stretching? Or why a practice that centers you in the morning does the opposite in the evening?

According to Ayurveda, different people require very different yoga practices. In Ayurveda, the building blocks of life are comprised of five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether. These elements come together in doshas -- Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The doshas express patterns of energy—each a blend of physical, emotional, and mental characteristics.

The doshas show up in foods, times of the day, seasons, and exercise and movement types – including yoga! This 2.5 hour workshop will explore which types of movement and breathing are best for you according to your dominant dosha and look at how energy works during different cycles of the day. You will learn how to design your yoga practice to be the best  and most balanced version of your vata, pitta or kapha self. Class is mainly physical, and includes asana, pranayama and lecture.  Please check out a few dosha tests online before you come to the workshop. I recommend either John Doulillards dosha quiz or Banyan Botanicals. Cost is 39e.
